Joshua Cecil (JC) Haney is a Métis community advocate, political science student, and the founder of the Access to Therapy Initiative, a Canadian charity dedicated to removing financial and systemic barriers to mental-health care. Drawing from his own lived experiences with mental-health challenges, disabilities, and financial hardship, Joshua created a model of long-term, no-cost counselling that ensures people receive help for as long as they need it, not just as long as they can afford it.

Deeply committed to public service, Joshua has been politically active since the age of fourteen and brings a strong sense of civic duty, compassion, and grit to his work. As a first-generation university student studying political science, he is driven by the belief that social programs should restore dignity, reduce suffering, and create opportunities for people who have been overlooked or underserved.

Joshua’s leadership philosophy is grounded in empathy, honesty, and practical action. Under his direction, Access to Therapy has grown from a personal vision into a national charitable organization that connects individuals with independent, qualified counsellors using a first-come, first-serve queue model. He also launched “Together,” a community program designed to combat isolation by creating warm, welcoming spaces for people to connect over shared struggles, free hot drinks, and conversation.

With a long-term goal of serving in the public sector, Joshua is motivated by a simple conviction: no one should be alone in their pain, and everyone deserves access to meaningful, ongoing mental-health support, regardless of income, background, or circumstance.
